8 European alternatives to Mailcoach — GDPR-compliant & EU-hosted.
Mailcoach is an email platform for newsletters, marketing campaigns, automations and transactional emails. It is developed by Spatie BV, a software company in Antwerp, Belgium. The platform includes audience management with tags and segments, split testing, analytics and an API. It is delivered in two ways: as a hosted service run by Spatie, and as Mailcoach Self-Hosted, a Laravel package that organisations install on their own servers under a paid licence.
According to its subprocessors page, the hosted service runs on infrastructure from UpCloud and Aiven in Finland. Mailcoach is commercial software, not open source. Emails can be sent through Mailcoach itself or through a provider of your own choice, such as Amazon SES, Postmark or Mailgun. The subprocessors page also lists several US providers; of these, only the email provider Postmark handles subscriber data, and only when configured. Spatie publishes a data processing agreement. With the self-hosted edition, hosting and security are the responsibility of the organisation itself.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Mailcoach
Mailcoach is headquartered in BE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.
Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Mailcoach scores best on data residency.
Mailcoach is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.
What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Mailcoach together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
